The overall goals of the 2007-2008 effort are to: (1) improve the success by which the FEL meets the information needs of the residents of the state of Florida, the library community, and other users of the FEL; (2) assist in ongoing data collection, reporting strategies, and analysis of that data to describe the status and success of the FEL; and (3) offer recommendations and possible strategies in increase the impact and use of the FEL. These goals can help assure the establishment of ongoing assessment, fine-tuning, and improvement of the FEL.

Activities

The current FEL assessment builds upon prior assessments conducted by the Information Institute.

• Reviewing previous FEL evaluations from 2002 to date, as well as other resources, as input for the current 2007-2008 activities;
• Developing statistics, measures, and evaluation approaches to be considered in the development of the next FEL five-year plan;
• Assessing public library and school needs to better provide consumer health information via the FEL.
• Continuing the 2006-2007 assessment activities related to the FEL Ask A Librarian service.
• Providing State Library staff guidance in the organization and in the development of procedures for the continued collection, analysis, and reporting of FEL data and the evaluation database

The current project’s evaluation efforts will continue to assist the State Library in the development and implementation of the FEL.

The project begins in November 2007 and is completed in June 2008 and has been funded by the State Library of Florida
