College of Information Seeking Tenure Track Assistant Professor

The College of Information at The Florida State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor, tenure track faculty position. Applicants must have an earned Ph.D. in Library and Information Science, Public Policy, a Juris Doctor or a terminal degree in a related discipline, a demonstrated record or potential for achievement in academic research, teaching, and service and must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of assistant professor.

The position may include an appointment as Assistant Director at the Information Use, Management, and Policy Institute at the College of Information http://www.ii.fsu.edu/. The successful candidate is expected to conduct and support research that directly advances the research of the Information Institute. Opportunities within the Institute include participating in the development and submission of research proposals, working on various research projects at the Institute, establishing contacts with other organizations for collaborative research efforts, and leading potential funded research opportunities. Successful applicants will demonstrate a knowledge and research base in information and telecommunications policy and the planning and evaluation of library and information services. Additional areas of interest include web-based services including instructional design, functionality/usability testing of information services and products, digital libraries, and E-government. Research at the Institute is often draws from a user-oriented perspective. Ability to teach online classes is desirable. Faculty members are expected to serve on University and School committees and teams, and to advise students. Starting salary is competitive based on the candidate's experience and skills.

FSU's College of Information is a leader in the education of digital-age information technology specialists and librarians and is widely recognized for its pioneering role in the areas of web based education and undergraduate information technology education. The faculty comprises 35 dynamic, interdisciplinary, award-winning, and internationally recognized faculty members, active in teaching, research, and service in a leading "I-school." Master's, and Specialist degrees are offered on and off campus. The Bachelor's and Ph.D. are offered as on-campus degrees. The School currently enrolls approximately 900 students.
