Approaches

Most recently the Information Institute has been examining possible approaches to develop an "Evaluation Database" of statewide database use, digital reference, and other statewide information services provided through a common statewide portal. This effort intends to determine the degree to which a range of use and other statistics can be integrated into a common database that can then be queried to provide a range of information to assist participants in the statewide service with a range of data that can be used for decision making and planning.

A key component of such a statewide evaluation database would be the development of automatic "data checking protocol" that can automatically review raw data from various vendors and identify anomalies such that it "flags" these anomalies for a staff member to read then review. We believe that such efforts can significantly improve the overall usefulness of vendor based data as well as reduce the staff time needed to produce weekly/monthly/annual statistical summaries of database use.
