National Hurricane Preparedness Week is May 22-28, 2011

Learn how you can be prepared for Hurricane Season during the nation’s second National Hurricane Preparedness Week, May 22-28.  Last year, President Obama issued a proclamation declaring the last week in May as National Hurricane Preparedness Week to urge Americans to actively plan for hurricanes.  Days of the Hurricane Preparedness Week highlight different aspects of hurricanes: history, hurricane hazards, forecast, prepare, and act. 

The National Hurricane Center developed a website for Hurricane Preparedness Week  to inform the public about hurricane hazards and to provide resources for action in the event of a hurricane. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has also developed a website to assist the public with planning for all types of disasters, Ready.gov.  Public Libraries will find the Information Institute’s updated website,  Hurricane Preparedness and Response for Florida Public Libraries especially useful for the upcoming hurricane season.
